Play safely – Fundamental for the swing and climbing frame

January 16th, 2012

The climbing frame or swing have been bought and built up. Now only the anchoring of the playground equipment into the ground is necessary. This sounds harder than it actually is.

For the attachment of the swing or climbing frame, you need a professional anchor. In our online shop we currently offer four different anchors:

The ground anchor is screwed into the ground. It is quick to assemble, but offers security to only one side of the pole of the climbing frame or swing.

Much safer is the ground anchor “Safety”. It stabilizes the climbing frame or the swing in all directions, but it must be encased in concrete.
The same is with the H-anchor, the safest anchorage on offer. It also requires a concrete foundation under your climbing frame or swing.

You had better check out the different ground anchors on our website regarding climbing frame safety. Please note that you can only use with slanted ladders and climbing walls the basic ground anchor or ground anchors “Safety”.

If you opt for a solution embedded in concrete, you need to prepare a base point. First you build the climbing frame or swing and mount the appropriate ground anchors. Then precisely prepare the foundation for the posts and ladders. Set the climbing frame or swing with the ground anchors into the foundation. Stabilize your playground equipment during the setting of the concrete.

There are many sorts of playhouses

January 4th, 2012

When we say “playhouse” you probably think of a simple, square house made of wood – you are not wrong. Our entry-models among playhouses are very simply designed, for example the playhouse Villa Fantastico or playhouse Henrik.

A playhouse can also be more complex, larger and more detailed. Even our playhouse Moritz can be extended with a veranda. Playhouse Spatzennest (Sparrow’s Nest) children especially love with its little flower boxes outside the window. Here you can plant a few colourful flowers with your children. In addition the playhouse has a chimney and a centrally-divided door.

The playhouse Schwalbennest (Swallow’s Nest) is particularly equipped with an eye for detail. The playhouse in country-style is reminiscent of a small villa – you can paint it with the small home owners in their favorite colour.

A playhouse can also be converted into a shop or an ice-cream parlor. Particularly suitable for this are the playhouses Prince Park House and the playhouse Jenny’s Corner Shop.
A playhouse can take a variety of “shapes”. Customize your playhouse with our additional accessories. A toy phone or a blackboard for the playhouse is very popular. Also a letterbox or the ice accessory expands the possibilities for your little children.

Our cheaper Castle Minodor, but also our large playground Castle Camelot takes your kids on adventures to the Middle Ages. There are also the climbing frames Mindy’s Mega Store for the young entrepreneur, the climbing frame Fire Station for little fire fighters or the climbing frame Lost Jungle for your little Idiana Joneses.

The climbing frame and its extension capabilities

November 28th, 2011

The extension possibilities for Wickey climbing frames are varied and diverse. It starts with small extension modules for the piece of playground equipment and ends with large parts, which  transform the climbing frame into a proper “playground”.
The accessories for the climbing frame include telescopes, flags, and steering wheels that change your climbing frame into for example a pirate ship. Or add a blackboard for little notes or a phone for Messaging on the climbing frame.
A larger acquisition is, for example, a fire pole, which changes the climbing frame into a fire lookout. For this kind of climbing frame you need our “multibeam”. On this multibeam you can also hang a climbing ladder or a climbing rope.
Do you want to expand your climbing frame in a larger way, then extend your climbing frame with a swing or a slide. Or add a wave slide and a climbing wall. Children who like acrobatics, certainly appreciate a horizontal bar.
Particularly with our starter-climbing frames models it is worth buying a roof for the playground equipment.
Our smallest customers also enjoy the extension module called “Xtra-bridge” for the equipment with a platform height of 150 cm. This module consists of a shaky bridge, a climbing net and a picnic place and also offers space for an additional slide.

A climbing tower for Christmas

November 7th, 2011

Give your kids a climbing frame instead of computer games or DVDs at Christmas. At the latest in spring, the climbing frame will be built up in the courtyard or garden, and for your little ones there’s no “holding back” anymore. You certainly don’t have to worry anymore in the New Year that your children move too little. The climbing frame mobilizes your little adventurers. Finally, a climbing frame offers a lot of variety: with the climbing ladder they can climb up to the platform of the climbing frame. Here the experienced sailor looks through binoculars to the horizon and then rushes down the slide for an adventure. Depending on the climbing frame model, swings, a climbing net, a climbing wall, a rope or a pole seduce them into playing more. The sandbox which is integrated in the climbing frame invites them to play quietly. Of course, you can extend your climbing frame with some accessories and mounting modules. Swing seats are particularly popular in animal shapes or as tyre swings. Of course, you also have the possibility to start with a comparatively small climbing frame firstly and then to expand it in the course of time. So now you have an idea what you can get as present for Christmas.
With a climbing frame as a Christmas present, your kids have something to treasure for a long time. Maybe it would be a great “collective present” from grandparents, aunts and uncles and other relatives who would like to share their part in this special Christmas present.

How to take care of a climbing frame

October 24th, 2011

A climbing frame should be well prepared before the “rough season” starts. With a little care your climbing frame is prepared in no time at all for the cold, rain, ice and snow.

The maintenance of the climbing frame begins with just a few simple steps: Remove the wet autumn leaves from your climbing frame. You should not forget the play sand in the sandbox. If you already have a sandbox cover you really don’t need to clean the sand so often.

Look for any weak spots on your climbing frame. The wood of a Wickey climbing frame is pressure-treated. Nevertheless it could have gotten damaged, for example, during heavy storms. For the wood on your climbing frame we can recommend varnish to protect the wood and let it shine in new splendor.

Also check the screws and other connections. In our online shop you will find replacement parts for your climbing frame if something should need to be replaced or supplemented.

The accessories on your tower can be dismantled from time to time in order to give it a proper cleaning. For example; the swing seat, the telescope or the steering wheel of your climbing frame.

As well as the climbing frame you should of course remove slippery leaves, remove obstacles and cut back intruding shrubs and trees from its surrounding area.

“Parents must remain outside of the playhouse”!

October 17th, 2011

A playhouse is usually a very private “area” for children. Here the rule is: “Parents must remain outside.” If the playhouse would have a door, this unwritten law would be written on it! But often a door is not usually part of a playhouse.

We present here a few playhouses from our range where your kids can definitely close the door behind them.
Already one of our cheapest playhouses is equipped with a door: The playhouse Olli has a door and also shutters. Privacy is guaranteed for your children. Our playhouse Bastian is similar, except that the playhouse is bigger. With playhouse Andy there is even a small porch included.

Not just a door, but the playhouse Schwalbennest offers an almost “luxurious” setting. In this playhouse the parents will surely be invited, because your children have enough space in it.
The playhouse Prince Park can, thanks to the split-opening door and the shutters, be turned into an ice cream shop as well. If the door is closed, your little kids are surely counting the daily turnover.

In almost every playhouse in our range you and your children can become creative and paint their little kingdom in the bright colors they desire.

Sandbox protection, especially for the sand

October 10th, 2011

In the glorious late summer weather, playing in the sandbox for the little ones is a treat. Don’t let yourself be deceived by the warm weather. Slowly and surely, the first autumn leaves fall from the trees and then a shelter for your sandbox in the garden is more important than ever. With just a few innovations you can protect your sandbox from the elements. The best thing is to buy is the right cover for your sand box. Not only the falling leaves and wind and rain can be kept out of the sandbox, even the neighbor’s cat can’t make itself comfortable in the play sand anymore.

We offer for every sandbox in our range a matching lid – both for the square ones, as well as for the rectangular and hexagonal sandboxes.

Especially useful is our sandbox Flippey in which a lid is already integrated. The cover becomes, when folded up, a comfortable seat. A similar function can be found with the sandbox Nadine, in which the cover for the sandbox can be shoved upwards and immediately acts as a sunscreen.

Of course you can cover your sandbox with a durable tarpaulin as well. Just as important as a cover is an anti-root filter for your sandbox. It protects the play sand from earth, roots and insects from the ground
